On July 20, a music teacher in Orange County was charged with committing lewd acts on two young female students. Randal Letcher Scott, owner of Music Town—a music education business with locations in Cypress and Irvine—allegedly victimized two young girls in a sexual manner.
According to ABC Channel 7, Scott victimized the 5-year-old girl between October and December 2015 and the 6-year-old girl in November 2016. The charges against him include two felony counts of lewd and lascivious acts on a child. Penal Code 288 defines these acts more explicitly, but you can already guess the kind of horrible things that were described.
Because of the nature of lewd act cases and sex crimes, Scott could face more charges. According to a statement released by the Orange County District Attorney’s office, Scott’s sentencing could also be extended due to “substantial sexual contact with a child.” If he is convicted as charged, he could be serving 30 years to life in state prison. In addition, he would have to register as a lifetime sex offender.
