It may be the happiest place on Earth, but officials at Disneyland were not smiling about recent accusations leveled against one of their workers. According to a news release by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, a 27 year-old dishwasher from Disney is accused of attempting to trade park tickets for sex with a teenager. As reported by the LA Times, the man had posted an ad on Craigslist around July 1st, seeking sex that would be paid for with tickets to Disneyland. An undercover Huntington Beach police officer, posing as a 14-year old girl, arranged to meet the man at an undisclosed location. When the man arrived, with tickets and condoms in hand, he was immediately taken into custody.
Prosecutors have charged the man with a number of different crimes, including attempting to commit a lewd act on a minor. If the man is convicted, he could spend up to four years in state prison, in addition to be registered as a sex offender. Because of California Penal Code 290 PC, which states that all people convicted of sex crimes register as sexual offenders for the rest of their life, this kind of crime could follow him for life. Unfortunately, officials indicate that the man has posted a number of other Craigslist ads and there could be more victims out there. Additionally, a Disneyland resort spokeswoman stated that “He was immediately relieved of his duties as a dishwasher.”
Crimes of sexual nature are not to be taken lightly. Law enforcement agencies throughout the Southland move quickly to convict individuals charged with being a sex offender.
